For more than 130 years, Sam Houston State University (SHSU) has been preparing students for meaningful lives of achievement. It is the twelfth largest university in Texas and is ranked among the “Best Colleges for the Money” by College Factual. Its motto, “The measure of a Life is its Service,” echoes across SHSU’s eight colleges and beyond campus through student research, creative endeavors, service learning, volunteering, and more. SHSU is classified as a “Doctoral Research University” by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education, placing it in the nation’s top 7% of all higher education institutions, and offers over 80 bachelor degree programs, over 50 masters and six doctoral programs, including nationally recognized programs in Business, Fine Arts, Education, Mathematics, and Criminal Justice.

The Chronicle of Higher Education named Sam Houston State University among the nation’s best universities to work for in its 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 “Great Colleges to Work For” survey results. SHSU was also named by the Houston Chronicle as one of the top places to work in the greater Houston area in 2010.
