Description
The Austin College Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology to begin August 2026. We seek a broadly trained biologist who will contribute to our physiological and organismal biology curriculum.
Teaching responsibilities include one semester of our introductory biology sequence aligned with the applicant’s area of expertise, the second semester of a revised two-semester sequence of anatomy & physiology, and upper-level courses that align with the individual’s interests and departmental needs. The standard teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester (typically two courses, each including a lecture and accompanying lab) plus a January Term course every other year. Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching is the top priority and faculty often engage undergraduates in research through coursework and/or in projects during the summer or academic year. Austin College provides startup funds, and additional internal funding is available for mentoring summer research students. The Austin College Biology Department has modern teaching and lab-based research facilities and additionally makes use of several college-owned properties for off-site field research and teaching.
The successful candidate will have earned a PhD by August 2026, demonstrate a strong commitment to innovative teaching in a liberal arts environment and foster participation from a diverse student body.
